Once as the villa of Jiang Jieshi in Suzhou, Garden Hotel became the State Guest House in 1952, which has received over 100 Party and State leaders as well as leaders of foreign countries in the past 50 years, becoming a good example for receptions involving foreign affairs in Suzhou. In 2003, Jiangsu Guotai Group took over the hotel and brought in a new management concept. In 2005, the group invested RMB260 million in reconstructing it, aiming to build up a 5-star business hotel typical of Suzhou gardens.
