Longsheng is 90km up northwest from Guilin and is rich in minority cultures. Yet the town itself has not much to offer, except the interesting local market. Most of visitors head directly to Longji and Dazhai where huge rice terraces and minority villages are located. Longsheng Hotel (in downtown Longsheng) The hotel is a 2-star property and has been accommodating small groups from Europe. But do not expect the reception to speak much English. The rooms are fine with A/C, full set of toiletries, and western toilets. No non-smoking rooms. So if you are allergic to smoking, better head for Longji basic accommodation.
Reference Price: USD20 Li An Lodge No one knows when this facility is to open. As per our email contact with them, it sounds they are going to open it in April 2004. Who knows? The opening date has been postponed year after year. But this does not stop it from being the best facility up hill on Longji Rice Terraces. With central air-con, a full set of expensive water purifying system and a tasteful design, it sure is going to be the best and most expensive place to stay up the mountain.

Add: Ping"an village, Heping, Longsheng, Guilin, China. Post Code: 541701 Longji Yunlong Dwelling This is a remodeled wood house with basic facilities like bed, private Chinese toilet, and hot shower. You need to bring your own toiletries. Food is Chinese style; so if you prefer your own choice, bring some from Guilin. But the view from window and the balconies is great.

Long"an Inn
It is one of the first inns you come across on the path entering Ping¡¯an village. Landlady is very hospitable and can drink a lot. It was remodeled in 2002 but the toilet (on each floor) and shower room are still shared. Again like the Yunlong Inn above, there are these basic facilities. The landlady is quite an entrepreneur and helpful. One of her daughters, an 11yr old girl by the time of writing, can show you around the village and nearby places at the order of her Mom. She is a shy girl. Jinkeng Inn in Dazhai in Longji With facilities similar to Long¡¯an Inn, Jinkeng Inn is located 4hrs walk away in Dazhai village, a Miao tribe community. It is said the rice terraces are of a bigger scale here and attracts lots of photographers. Traveller"s Home in Sanjiang Owned by a few local entrepreneurs, the hotel is used by quite a few western tour companies, especially the French. Hotel facility is all right, similar to Dongyue. Beds are smaller though. They can cook simple western breakfast. Dongyue Guesthouse in Sanjiang A small hotel on the bridgehead, Dongyue hotel is not a bad choice if you wish to stay in town. Again, like Longsheng, the town itself does not offer much to see except for the poorly maintained museum and the new town square that boasts the world biggest drum tower. The hotel is equipped with A/C and full set of toiletries. The bed is quite big. Drum Tower Hotel in Sanjiang Chengyang Area Located near the famous Chengyang Wind & Rain Bridge, this place is good for one or two nights rest. It is on the edge of Chengyang Dong village and makes it easy for you to observe the local Dong tribe"s life. Facilities are basic and toilet and shower room is shared on each floor so you need to bring your own toiletries. They cook good Chinese food and the owner, a Mr. Yang, speaks good English and brews great low-alcohol liquor.
