Urumqi climate and weather

Urumqi is surrounded by Tianshan Mountain in east, south and west sides. The area is higher in southeast part, and lower in northwest. It borders the southern edge of Junggar Basin in the north with an average elevation of 800 meters above sea level. Urumqi has an arid continental climate with short Spring and Autumn, and comparatively long Summer and Winter. The temperatures vary greatly in one day. The annual average rainfall is about 194 mm. The hottest months are July and August with an average temperature of 25.7 degree Celsius, the coldest January is about -15.2 degree Celsius.
