Korla is a county-level city and the seat of the Bayangol Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Central Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The city of Korla was known as Weili in ancient times and served as an important staging post in the middle of the Silk Road.
Korla boasts a great deal of historical sites, which remind visitors of the city's glory past, such as the famous Iron Gate Pass. Among the natural sights in Korla, Bosteng Lake, Kaidu River, and Bayandulak Grassland are the most famous.
