Gansu Tours

For most of travelers outside China, the name of Gansu is rather unfamiliar,. Possibly we can only find some clues in the old books about the Western explorers in early 20th century like Sir. Marc Aurel Stein.

Sandwiched by Qinghai Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Gansu province traverses from east to west along the Hexi Corridor with a slender shape in the middle and bigger stretches at both ends. In history, the Northern Silk Road ran through the Hexi Corridor, which passes through Gansu, making it an important strategic outpost and communications channel for the Chinese empire. Right here you can still witness the Buddhist temples, beacon towers, forts, chunks of the Great Wall and ancient trading towns in its wake.

Rich in cultural and geographic diversity, Gansu has so much to offer. There is a great combination of natural, historical and cultural resources. The popular spots include Mogao Caves (Grottoes), riding camels on sand dunes in Dunhuang, Zhangye Danxia Geopark, Pingshanhu Grand Canyon, Mati Temple and Giant Buddha Temple in Zhangye, ancient Wei-Jin Tombs, fortress and the Great Wall in Jiayuguan, Labrang Tibetan Monastery and neighboring grassland in Xiahe. Besides, Zhangye is also a gateway for intrepid travelers to explore the Badain Jaran Desert.

Gansu represents a colorful mixture of ethnicities, customs, and cultures. It is home to 26 million people, including the majority Han as well as many ethnic groups including Tibetan, Hui, Dongxiang, Tu, Yugu, Bao’an and Mongolian, etc. This also makes Gansu an exotic, unusual Chinese destination for international travellers.

If you want to discover the remote and unique destinations compared to those metropolises in East China, in Gansu there are definitely some great options for you to select. At ETC, our travel specialists are more than happy to assist you to craft a fantastic trip to the less-visited Gansu region.
