Upon arrival, our guide will meet you at the airport/train station and transfer to the hotel for check in.

Drive to Qinghai Lake, which is the largest inland saltwater lake in China. It also enjoys high respect from Tibetan pilgrims.

Qinghai Lake

Drive to visit Ta’er Monastery (Kumbum Monastery, 25km), one of the greatest six lamaseries of Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Then visit Dongguan Mosque, one of the most famous mosque in Northwest China.

Ta’er Monastery

Drive 1.5 hours to a small village named Takster, where is the birthplace of the present Dalai. We will visit the room where the Dalai Lama was born as well as a small prayer and worship hall. Old pictures of the Dalai Lama and his family can be seen in the house. Then drive to Lanzhou.

Visit White Pagoda Hill, Water Wheel Park, Gansu Provincial Museum with a large collection of nearly 100,000 pieces of relics. Transfer to take an overnight train to Dunhuang at soft sleeper class.

White Pagoda Hill

Upon arrival in the morning, transfer to hotel for refreshing up. Then visit Mogao Caves, one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in China. Of the thousand or so caves that once existed, 492 have survived in good shape, but only a fraction of these are open to tourists. Visit Mingsha Sand Dunes, optional camel riding available.

Fly to Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. Transfer to hotel for check in.

Drive to visit Linxia, one of the main religious, cultural, and commercial centers of China's Muslim community, earning itself the nickname of "the little Mecca of China". After lunch, continue our trip to Xiahe, where the famous Labrang Monastery is located. Built in 1709, the monastery is one of the six most important monasteries of the Gelupka sect.

Visit the monastery in the morning. See the museum, the great halls, libraries and their exquisite yak butter sculptures. In the afternoon we can explore the nearby grassland on bike or on horseback, and venture up to the valleys to reach a monument surrounded by prayer flags.

Drive back to Lanzhou, and connect your flight to the next destination.
