Upon your arrival at Beijing Airport, you will be met by your guide and transfer privately to downtown. Visit Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world. With the 37.94-meter high Monument to the People's Heroes standing at the center, the Great Hall of the People to the west, the National Museum of China to the east, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong at the south, Tiananmen Square is named after the Tiananmen ("Gate of Heavenly Peace") located to its north, which separates it from the Forbidden City. Later, walk through under ground tunnel under Chang'an Avenue and Tiananmen to the former imperial palace, the Forbidden City. This large palace building was built between 1406 and 1420, and it served as the home of 24 emperors in Ming & Qing dynasties and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.It was nominated as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1987, is the largest ancient palatial structure in the world and the best-preserved imperial palace in China.It takes around 2-3 hours to explore the palace.

In the afternoon, you will visit local Hutongs with a rickshaw riding to learn local Beijinger's tradtional courtyard house and their lifestyle. It is also one of the best places to taste local snacks in Hutong area. After the exploration, you will be transferred back to airport for your flight to next destination.

Tips for taking an Airport Layover Tour in Beijing:

1. There are two airports in Beijing. According to below distance and drive time to Beijing downtown (e.g. the Forbidden City), a layover time with 10 hours or more is required.

    Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is 30km / 55min  

    Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) is 55km / 75min

2. As the Forbidden City closes on each Monday and entrance ticket needs to be booked 8 days in advance. If your travel date is on Mongday or within 8 days, it is suggested to replace it with other sites like the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, Yonghe Lhama Temple, etc. 

3. According to the time your layover time and your interest, the tour itinerary can be customized accordingly.
