This Muslim-friendly AirAsia East China tour is an ideal China trip itinerary for exploring Shanghai metropolitan area in 8 days. Except for the iconic tourist attractions such as the Bund in Shanghai, the West Lake in Hangzhou, the Ming Xiaoling Tomb in Nanjing, and the classic ancient Chinese garden in Suzhou, you’ll also discover Islamic sites and culture in East China.

Day

Departing at 18:50 from Kuala Lumpur Airport, you will land at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 00:20am in the following day after the 5h30m flight. Transfer to the hotel and have a good rest. 

Meals: No meal

You will have a late morning start. The guide will pick you up at the hotel lobby and transfer to visit City God Temple and adjacent market for shopping. It is an active and indigenous Chinese Taoist temple full of Chinese cultural elements in its décor. Then transfer to have Halal lunch, pay a visit to Xiaotaoyuan Mosque, which is the religious, educational and cultural center for Muslims in Shanghai. 

Later, head for Shanghai Museum, featuring eleven state-of-the-art galleries and housing China’s top-notch exhibits of bronzes, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jade and Ming and Qing dynasty furniture. Later, you can have a stroll at People’s Square, the largest of its kind in Shanghai.

Shanghai Museum

After breakfast, transfer to board the bullet train to Nanjing (2 hrs). Be picked up at the train station. Transfer to the oldest and largest mosque in Nanjing- Jingjue Mosque, first build in 1388. Then have lunch, in the afternoon, head for the Zhonghua City Gate Park, it is a renowned ancient city gate in China and the city gate with the most complex structure in the world. 

Then proceed to the Confucius Temple and adjacent market around it.

In the morning, drive to visit Ming Xiaoling Tomb (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site), which is the mausoleum of the first emperor Zhu Yuanzhang of Ming Dynasty. The 600-meter-long Sacred Way in front of the tomb is lined up with stone-carved animals, definitely worth a visit. 

After lunch at the local Halal food restaurant, transfer to take the bullet train to Suzhou (1.5 hrs). You will be picked up at the train station and transferred to Suzhou Taipingfang Mosque to pray, it is the religious center for Muslims in Suzhou. Later, explore Pan Gate, which is the only existing ancient city gate in Suzhou today and the only one that has land AND water gates. Overnight in Suzhou.

Ming Xiaoling Tomb Nanjing

After breakfast, visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site), it is the largest garden in Suzhou and is considered by some to be the finest garden in all of southern China. Then have lunch at the local Halal food restaurant. 

Transfer to the train station to head for Hangzhou (1.5 hrs). Visit Hangzhou Mosque of Arabian Architectural style, it was opened in 2014 and became the largest Mosque in East China. After dinner, transfer to the hotel.

After breakfast, visit the most famous lake in China – West Lake, and see Santan Yinyue (literally means Three Pools Mirroring the Moon), it is the biggest island in West Lake. Honored as the “First Scenic Spot of West Lake”. Later, proceed to Meijiawu Tea Plantation – the birthplace of the Dragon Well tea. Have a stroll round the tea plantation, see how farmers pick tea leaves, and taste a cup of tea. 

After lunch, transfer to the Silk Museum for a visit, then go to Intime Shopping Mall, one of the best in Hangzhou.

Hangzhou West Lake

After breakfast at hotel, transfer to board the bullet train to Shanghai (1 hr). After arrival, transfer to Tianzifang, which is known for small craft stores, coffee shops, trendy art studios and narrow alleys. Later, go to stroll at the famous shopping street – Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street

Then walk to the Bund to enjoy the fantastic view of old and new Shanghai on both sides of Huangpu River. After dinner, return to your hotel.

Shanghai Tianzifang Old-style Haircut

Have a late morning start (about 10:30am) and go for hotel checkout, head for the Oriental Pearl Tower, and take the lift up to the 263m-high platform to have a panoramic view of the city. There is a Shanghai Urban History and Development Museum at its foot, you will have a quick look for what has happened here in the past centuries. After lunch, go to Shanghai IFC mall, which provides a spectrum of finest retail offerings to the best international luxury brands. Visit a local market selling garments, bags, gifts and souvenirs. 

After dinner, transfer to the airport and board your AirAsia flight back home (departing at 01:35am)
