Day

Arrival in Nanjing either by high speed train or flight, you will be met by your guide and transfer to hotel privately. The exploration for your family in Nanjing starts from a traditional Chinese style garden - Zhan Garden. First built in Ming Dynasty, Zhan Garden is one of the four most famous gardens in south China, specially noted for hills and ponds. Later, you will visit Jiangnan Gongyuan, or Imperial Examination Hall, which was used as the examination hall for both the provincial level examination (juren) of Jiangsu and Anhui Provinces in Ming and Qing Dynasties. You'll learn how Chinese imperial civil examination system worked in imperial period of China. 

Pedestrian Street by the Qinhuai River is one of the most busiest areas for shopping and snacks. You may want to take an optional 40min cruise on the Qinhuai River to view the water town lifestyle in south China.

Zhan Garden


After breakfast in hotel, you will head to Zhongshan Mt., 6km north of downtown area of Nanjing. Walk along the Wutong Road lined with tall plane trees on both sides, you will get to Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, tomb of the Hongwu Emperor, the founder of the Ming dynasty. Unlike all other imperial mausoleums in China, the sacred way to the mausoleum is not straight because of existance of the mausoleum of Sun Quan, King of the Kingdom of Wu in the Three Kingdoms period. Later, you will visit Meiling Palace, a large villa built by the chairman of the Chinese National Government, Chiang Kai-Shek, for his wife, Soong Meiling. Lunch in local restaurants for local foods like salted duck, rice cake, soup dumplings, etc. This afternoon, you will visit Ancient City Wall for a leisure walk on the city wall and overview the Xuanwu Lake and the city. Head to Deji Plaza later and visit Deji Art Museum. With over 20 years of collecting history, focusing on ancient Chinese culture and art, Deji present their collections in a different way more kid-friendly.

Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum

This morning, you will visit Niushou Mountain at Nanjing outskirt. It is a cultural park built on a historical Buddhist mountain site, but you will be astonished by the building itself at the first sight. As the shrine for the world's only parietal relic of Buddha (the skull of Shakyamuni), it becomes a sacred location for Buddhists. The Foding Palace (the Usnisa Palace), covering an area of 136,000 square meters, most of it underground, up to six floors down. In the afternoon, you will return to downtown and visit Yunjin Brocade Museum. As the best brocade in China, the craftsmanship of Nanjing Yunjin Brocade is on the UNESCO Representative List of intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. You will view the Yunjin wooden loom at 4 meters high, 5.6 meters long, and 1.4 meters wide. It is composed of 1,924 components and requires two skilled craftsmen to operate together.

After the visit, you will be transferred to train station or airport in time fore next destination.
