    Hongya Cave History

Originally known as ‌Hongyamen‌, this site was one of ancient Chongqing's city gates, with roots going back to the ‌Warring States Period‌ (over 2,000 years ago). While the Ming dynasty witnessed its rebuilt as part of Chongqing's ‌17 defensive city gates‌ (8 closed, 9 open). During the Qing dynasty, Hongya Cave transformed into a ‌bustling riverside market. Recognized for its cultural value after 1949, it became an important tourist attraction in Chongqing, and the 2003-2006 renovation polished this gem to perfection.

At the entrance of Hongya Cave's first floor stands a stone archway, which is a replica of 2000-year-old artifacts found near the Three Gorges. It welcomes visitors with carvings of mythical creatures and ancient worship scenes. These totems and symbols provide you with a tangible connection to Chongqing's primordial roots.
