Ping'an Village

Ping’an Village is the most famous village in Longji Terraces scenic area. It is a typical village of the Zhuang minority village with around 100 households, all of whom are Zhuang ethnic people, hence it’s also called Ping’an Zhuang Village. Villagers make a living by cultivating rice-terraced fields and planting rice. After generations, huge groups of rice terraces were formed.

The hill in Ping’an terraces is not high, you can reach the top after half-an-hour’s walking, overlooking the whole peace terrace, very spectacular. The best time to visit is in the beginning of June, when the rice terraces are filled with water. The sceneries here in other seasons also have different features. In summer, the green seedlings dance together with the breeze. When autumn comes, the fields are covered in gold. The fields of snow in winter are also an unforgettable picture for tourists.

Ethnic Customs

The village still retains the features of costumes and life style of the ethnic Zhuang. Men wear short gowns made of hand-loomed cloth, while women wear head gears and white clothes adorned with flower patterns. Almost every household makes a kind of sweet rice wine of low alcohol degrees. The wine is brewed in a very primitive way. Villagers put fermented glutinous rice in the wooden bucket, and put it on the open fire. The wine will stream down from the bamboo pipe stuck in the middle of the bucket.

Nine Dragons and Five Tigers

"Nine Dragons" refers to the direction of the terrace where you can see the backbones of nine mountains, looks like nine long dragon bent from the sky to the golden river drinking water. In his side, there are five small hills like five tigers squatting on the ground, guarding the water and soil, that’s “Five Tigers”. The terraced fields form like chains, winding from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. The hills are like snails and the mountains are like towers. In this vast world of terraced fields such as the sea, there are 15,862 terraced fields of different sizes; the smallest one can only accommodate three seedlings.

Seven Stars around the Moon

"Seven Stars" refers to the original field that people left package like seven twinkling stars, accompanied by the top of the shining silver paddy, looks like seven stars accompanied by a moon from distance, constitute a beautiful picture. Here is the greatest place in Ping’an Rice Terraces with 4 viewing platforms in different height. Standing on the top point, you can enjoy lines flowing gracefully, maybe you can also see peasants working in the fields and heard them talking in low voices. If you want to take a great photo of sunrise or sunset in Longji Rice Terraces scenic area, Seven Stars around the Moon is your best choice. It’s just beginning to get grey, and you can look up at the sky from the observation deck under the faint starlight. As the distant halo slowly light up, the rice terraces wakes up and becomes clear and soon the clouds on the horizon turn red.

How to Get to Ping’an Zhuang Village?

First, you can book a vehicle or take a coach from Guilin Bus Station to Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area.

After enter the gate, follow the path on your right, and go through Huangluo Yao Village, the first junction is the way to Ping’an Village. Though there is still a long way to go up to the village, you can take a battery cart from the foot of the mountain.
