Strategically situated at the west of Sichuan basin, southwest of China, hinterland of Chengdu Plain, Chengdu enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with plentiful rainfall every year. Generally it has a mild climate with distinct four seasons.
Chengdu climate is characterized by early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter. The average annual temperature is 16℃ (61.8℉), and the annual rainfall is about 1000 mm. What is the best time to visit Chengdu?
Most places and scenic spots in Chengdu are not greatly influenced by season. However, March till June, September still November, which is the spring and autumn season, is the best time to travel to Chengdu. From March to June and from September to November, Chengdu is humid with less sunshine, when the temperature is moderate, thus suitable for travel. Besides, there are pear, peach, rape, azalea and other flower blossom in spring, while in autumn travelers can enjoy the mountain ginkgo and red leaves, and fall foliage.
From July to August, the summer of Chengdu, when the weather is hot and humid, travelers are suggested to visit Qingcheng Mountain, Dujiangyan, Jiulonggou, Jiufeng Mountain, Tiantai Mountain, Longchi Forest Park and other summer resorts.
From December to February, the winter of Chengdu, the coldest temperature can be as low as a few degrees below zero. It seldom snows, but it is relatively bleak and cold. Therefore if traveling to Chengdu in winter, travelers can further go visit Mt. Emei, Jiuzhaigou and Xiling Snow Mountain, which are good places to enjoy the snow, skiing and other winter activities.

A distinguishing feature of Chengdu in summer is that the air is always humid. Therefore, although the temperature is not high in summer (the highest temperature of Chengdu is generally less than 35℃(95℉), it is stiflingly hot.
