Haibao Pagoda

1.5 km northwest of downtown Yinchuan, also known as the North Pagoda by the locals, the Haibao Pagoda erects in its place for over 1500 years. It was listed among the 16 most famous ancient pagodas in China. Around the pagoda is an ancient Buddhist temple named after it, where the Ningxia Society of Buddhism is located. Since ancient times, the temple has been the famous site in Yinchuan for an annual temple fair, which falls on the 15th of the seventh lunar month.

No one knows who first built this pagoda, but it was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. It is a brick pagoda modeled on multi-storied counterparts. The existing pagoda has nine stories, and is 53.9 meters high. The pagoda is built on a square brick base, each side measuring 19.7 meters long and 5.7 meters high. The top floor offers a fantastic view of the city downtown.

Today Haibao Pagoda has become the symbol of Yichuan City. Every years thousands and thousands of tourists come here to see the architectural masterpiece of ancient Chinese people.
